Dressmaker Commission Requirements

A commission card tells you four numbers and expects you to find the dress that satisfies all of them. The hard part is not reading the card — it is remembering what "Professional: 50" means for a client you have not served since Tuesday, when the piece you need sits behind a friendship level you have not reached. Everything below is that lookup: every story and pigeon commission in the released build, with the thresholds exactly as the game words them.

How To Read A Commission

Requirement lines come in three shapes, and confusing them is the most common reason a dress that looks correct gets rejected.

Thresholds read as Quality: 80 or Eveningwear: 60. These are floors: reach at least that number. Caps read as Flowers: at most 0 or Cute: at most 20. These are ceilings, and they are traps — a dress that scores beautifully on every other tag still fails if it carries too much of a tag the client dislikes. Constraints read as Use 10cm of Trim, Bell: at least 3, Use only Silk or Yellow: at least 25%. They are not scores at all; they are filters applied to the finished garment.

The Constraints That Catch People

Threshold lines are self-explanatory once you know the tag exists. The constraint lines are where commissions quietly fail, so they are worth reading in their own right.

Budgets And What They Buy

A commission's budget is both the money you are given and the ceiling you must stay under. It scales with how demanding the dress is, not with how long the client has been waiting.

Early commissions sit around a few hundred coin and are comfortably served by cotton, linen and wool. The upper end runs into the thousands, and those clients are usually asking for silk, velvet or heavy decoration on top of high tag thresholds. The practical consequence is that fabric choice is a budget decision as much as a styling one: pinning one expensive swatch to the bodice and matching cheaper cloth elsewhere is how you clear a high threshold without breaking the ceiling.

The table above shows each budget next to its requirements so you can judge immediately whether a commission is affordable with the stock you own. Several commissions also carry a "Use only" restriction that narrows your options further — those are the ones to plan on paper first.

Failing A Commission

Handing over a dress that misses its requirements does not zero the commission. The client still pays when they accept the work — the first patch after launch specifically fixed failed commissions that paid nothing — and the cost is reduced prestige and friendship credit rather than the fee itself.

What varies is whether the commission comes back. Some failures reopen the order so you can try again, and some close permanently. That distinction matters beyond the coin: several achievements require specific commission outcomes, including ones that look like failures on the card. The achievement table marks which commissions gate an achievement and which outcome it needs.

If a commission will not register as complete even though the dress clears every listed number, the cause is usually one of three things: a constraint you read as a score, a panel whose colour or fabric type does not match, or a dress that never reached its quality floor because one panel was cut off-grain.
