Dressmaker Wiki

Commissions · Patterns · Fabrics · Style Tags

A client walks in and says "Quality: 80, Eveningwear: 60, Formal: 40." Somewhere in a library of 155 dress pieces and 348 fabrics is the combination that clears it. This is where you look it up — every commission threshold, every pattern unlock, every fabric's tag weights and price, without a spreadsheet.

Commission not paying out?

The first patch fixed failed commissions that gave no coin even when the client accepted the work. If you are still on an older build, update before assuming you misread a requirement.

How A Dress Gets Scored

Three numbers, one handover

A commission is three scores in one. Quality is the only requirement every single commission shares, and it comes from two places: how well each panel was aligned to the grain when you cut it, and how cleanly you followed the stitch lines on the machine. A single off-grain panel caps the whole dress, which is why perfect stitching sometimes still reads below target.

Style tags are the second score, and they are not a property of the fabric alone. The tag preview in the sketchbook is the combination of your chosen pattern pieces and the fabric swatches you pinned — swap the skirt and the same cloth can report different values. That is why scouting fabric before you have drafted a design wastes money.

Constraints are the third and easiest to miss, because they are worded as afterthoughts. "Use 10cm of Trim", "Bell: at least 3", "Use only Silk", "Flowers: at most 0" are all hard filters on the finished dress. The commission table labels minimum and maximum thresholds separately for exactly this reason — a cap is as binding as a floor.

What This Dressmaker Wiki Covers

This Dressmaker wiki is built around the three decisions a commission actually forces, rather than around a catalogue. The commission table answers what a client wants. The pattern reference answers which dress piece supplies the tag you are missing. The fabric reference answers which cloth carries it at a price the budget allows.

Everything here is checked against the released build rather than the earlier prototype, and the build is named on every page. Where a value could not be confirmed it is left out rather than estimated — a gap in a Dressmaker wiki is survivable, but a wrong price sends players shopping for cloth they cannot afford. If you are coming from the itch.io prototype, treat anything about tag scoring, customer patience or buying as unverified; those rules changed between the prototype and the commercial release.

The list below this page's tables is deliberately short. 77 commissions, 155 dress pieces, 348 fabrics and 330 accessories are all reachable from four pages, each one filterable, and none of them require an account. Progress tracking is stored in your own browser.

Dressmaker FAQ

The questions that come up first
Why is my dress stuck below the required quality?

Almost always a panel cut off-grain. Each piece shows a grain readout while you position it, and one misaligned piece caps the finished dress no matter how clean the seams are. Re-check every panel before cutting, including the ones you placed early and stopped looking at.

Do accessories count towards the style requirement?

Whether they count depends on how the requirement is worded. Style score tags come from pattern pieces and fabric. Accessories are counted separately, as pieces, metres or percentages — "Bell: at least 3" and "Use 10cm of Trim" are their own requirement lines and are checked independently of the tag score.

Can I change a fabric purchase if I chose the wrong one?

Plan before you buy. The commission table gives budget and requirement constraints up front, and the sketchbook shows the style tags a design will produce before any cloth is purchased. Buying first and discovering a colour or fabric-type constraint later is the most expensive mistake in the game.

What happens if I fail a commission?

You still get paid when the client accepts the work, and failure typically costs you reduced prestige and friendship credit rather than the whole fee. Some commissions reopen after a failure and some do not — the commission table flags which, and it matters because several achievements require finishing an outcome you might otherwise have avoided.

How many dress pieces and fabrics are there?

The released build contains 155 dress pieces split across bodices, skirts, sleeves and collars, 348 fabrics and 330 accessories. The developer has described the wider library as 450+ fabrics and 350+ accessories including variants; this site lists the shop stock you can actually buy in the build it was checked against.

Is this wiki kept up to date after patches?

Yes. Every patch that changes a value is re-checked before this wiki is updated, and each page names the build it was last verified against. Commission thresholds, fabric prices, unlock conditions and achievement chains are the fields most likely to move, so those are checked first. The changelog records what changed and when.

Where do the numbers on this site come from?

From the released build's own values, cross-checked between independent extracts and the game's on-screen interface. Every page names the build it was last verified against. Where a value could not be confirmed, it is left out rather than estimated.

Where To Start Depending On Your Problem

Four common situations and the page that solves each

Most visits to a Dressmaker wiki come from one of four situations, and each one has a direct answer rather than a general guide to read from the top. If none of them match, the commission table is the safest place to start — a Dressmaker wiki entry point is only useful if it gets you to the specific row you need.

You have a commission in front of you and it wants a tag you cannot find. Open the commission table, find the client, and read the exact requirement lines. Then search the fabric reference for that tag. If no affordable fabric carries it, the pattern reference will show which dress piece supplies it instead — and which client unlocks that piece.

Your dress keeps getting rejected and you cannot see why. Compare what you built against the requirement card line by line, especially any line reading "at most" or "use only". A rejected dress is usually a constraint violation rather than a scoring shortfall, because constraints fail silently and produce no warning.

Your quality score will not reach its target. That is almost always grain alignment rather than stitching, and the quality page walks through the two inputs in the order they matter. Check every panel, including the small ones you placed last.

You are stuck because a pattern is locked. The pattern reference lists the unlock source for every dress piece, and the clients page shows what each friendship star grants. Together they answer which client to serve next, which is the question the game itself never answers.
